Charity

The story-- "Nancy Learns Charity"

“Charity is one of the most significant human virtues. It banishes the slogan of ‘It’s mine’. We all know that charity begins at home. A charitable mind can conquer anything in life.”

Nancy read in class IV. She used to go to school every day. Although she was a very good girl and a meritorious student, she had a very bad habit of saying, “It’s mine”.

Her parents observed it day after day. Anyway, it was no more tolerable to them.

On that day, they discussed between themselves to advise Nancy about charity and about sharing things with others.

The school bell rang. It was time to go back home. All the children went back to their respective homes.

Nancy returned home. After a long while, her parents told her, “Nan, you are our one and only daughter. I know that you like to be pampered. Still, you know, sometimes we need to be charitable by sharing things with the others. Uncle Robin is having a very tough time. We want you to give him this hamper on your own.”

Nancy freaked out, “But, that’s mine!”

Then her mother advised, “If you give this hamper to Uncle Robin, you will feel a great joy from within. That joy will be much more than the joy of having this hamper.”

Nancy nodded her head. She went out to give that to Uncle Robin.

When she came back home, she hugged her parents and said joyfully, “Today, Uncle Robin loved me so much, much more than before. I’m really happy to give the hamper to Uncle, Mom and Dad.”

The parents were really very happy that their daughter got totally changed. Then they told her, “It’s called charity, dear. It has an enormous power to give you happiness to the utmost.”
